Introduction (A Brief History)

The idea of founding a school for the deaf was conceived by a group of well meaning people

Led by a renowned social worker – Mrs. Allison Izzet in 1956.

Others in the group were late Dr. Ademola, Dr. Adeniyi Jones, Dr. Hackett, Dr. Elosie, Alhaji S.A. Dawodu, popularly known as “Father of the Deaf”, Mrs. Francis, Mr. David and some other members. In that same year, they formed a body called Society for the Care of the Deaf. This society organized a School to cater for the education of the deaf. Late Mrs. R.A. Adelogbe was the coordinating teacher and the palace of  Late Oba Adeniji served as a temporary site for the school.

In 1962, the Federal Government of Nigeria built the present premises (Wesley School )a school meant for the Deaf) with boarding facilities at 30, Ajao Road and named the school federal school for the Deaf only thirty (30) students were registered as at that time. Even though capacity for about eighty deaf pupils. Late Mrs. R.A. Adelogbe who was the coordinating teacher became the first principal of the school having received specialist training in the education from Manchester in Britain.

In 1967, when Lagos State was created by the Military Government. Many Federal Government Institutions increasing federal school for the were handed over to the newly created states.

The transfer of ownership led to naming the school after Charlse Wesley, who was the founder of the Methodist Mission due to the invaluable contribution of the Mission to the development of the School. The school then became WESLEY SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF. By name

As days went by, population of the school began to increase as deaf children were brought from far and near.

In 1980 during the second republic the population has risen to 550 and so for easy administration and control, the school was divided into two, Wesley I and Wesley II for Deaf Children. Presently, Mr. A. K Alimi  heads School I while Mr. Solomon Adeoye Addey heads School II. The two schools have confidence sincerely side in the same premise as primary schools.

Many teen young hearing Impaired individual have graduated from the school since the inception.
